What to do to make your lips look healthy and beautiful in the winter? My lip care tips!

In the autumn, lips become dry, chapped, sore…it’s the only part of the body that lacks hydro-lipid layer which is responsible for protection against wind, cold and sun. Since nature did not take care of our lips, we must take matters into our own hands. How to take care of lips during the cold season?

1. Use protective lip balms!

Autumn lip care comes down primarily to the use of protective lip balms. They provide lips with vitamins and protect them against the harmful effects of wind and frost. Remember that all lip care cosmetics should include a UV filter, because even the autumn sun can damage our lips. Also, protective lip balms must be alcohol-free (otherwise the lips will be even more dehydrated).

2. Exfoliate!

You can use ready-made products found in the drugstores or do them yourself in the comfort of your own home. The scrub can be made with honey, sugar, vaseline and soothing substances of plant origin, such as calendula. A natural peel will smooth your lips, moisturize, nourish, and provide them with protection against damage and irritation.
Below, I’d like to show you a few recipes for DIY lip care products

  • Homemade lip scrub
Combine one teaspoon of sugar with one teaspoon of honey. Before you apply the peel to clean lips, moisten them. After the exfoliation, you can either eat the product;) or wash down with pure water.
  • Homemade lip balm
If your lips are in need of moisturising, apply natural oil, for instance, coconut oil, grape seed oil or olive oil. Make sure that the product is suitable for cooking purposes.

3. Do not apply coloured lipsticks to cracked and chapped lips!

Instead of a lipstick, go for ointments, medicated creams or other cosmetics with nourishing and soothing properties. For instance, a vitamin ointment (with vitamin A and E) or calendula balm will be a perfect choice.

4. Moisturise the lips before every use of a lipstick!

Lipsticks should not be applied to bare lips; always make sure to secure them with a generous layer of a moisturising product such as vaseline or glycerine.

5. What’s more, remember that you cannot lick your lips in the cold or nibble them when they are chapped.
