How to Protect Hair in Winter? See Useful Tips to Follow!

Obviously, you need a hat. The choice of the right one matters a lot. A nice appearance is the only thing to consider. Pay attention to the fabrics it’s made from. We suggest wool, cotton or cashmere. The breathable fabrics give your scalp and hair access to the air, protecting against the cold at the same time. Remember to put your hair under the hat or scarf to keep it from drying out and breaking. Be careful not to pull hair out when zipping your jacket. Hats may cause sebum glands to produce too much oil but we guess it’s better than weak follicles due to freeze, causing hair loss.

Because of the central heating, the air gets very dry while the humidity levels are lower. That’s why we need to air the rooms regularly and protect the hair. You can try an air humidifier or go for a more budget-friendly solution, putting wet towels on the radiator. Try to avoid hot tools like flat iron or curler. They are particularly harmful in the winter: the combination of heat and cold air outside is very bad for hair. If you use them, set a lower temperature and use cool airflow of a dryer.

Your winter hair care should concentrate on keeping the hair moisturised. Use hair oils on hair ends, ideally after every washing. You should treat your hair to a moisturizing mask once a week to revive it after a hard week. There are plenty of masks to choose from. While choosing one, focus on the ingredients it holds: it should contain emollients which protect against external factors. Oils are emollient substances that work best.

Keep your body healthy! Despite limited access to fresh fruit and vegetables, don’t give them up. Winter is a great time to eat pickled foods which are filled up with vitamins. Because they’re rich in minerals and vitamins A, C, E, and K, they don’t only make hair better-looking but also strengthen it. In the wintertime, it’s good to supplement vitamin D which plays a key role in producing new hair follicles and regulates functioning of sebum glands.
