Serum with vitamin C is the foundation of skin care regardless of its type and age. It will work perfectly if you have acne prone-skin (discolourations) or mature skin (wrinkles). How to use a serum with vitamin C? Discover its effects?
Serum with vitamin C – effects
It’s no secret that a serum with vitamin C owes its beneficial properties to nothing else but vitamin C. It contains a range of properties essential for the skin. Vitamin C is often used in the production of face creams, toners and masks. When it comes to a serum, the content is higher and that’s the secret of this cosmetic.
The main task of a serum with vitamin C is to brighten the skin, reduce discolourations and the visibility of wrinkles and delaying skin ageing processes.
Which serum with vitamin C to choose?
Vitamin C can be found in cosmetics under three different forms. The choice should depend on the type of skin and the results you expect.
Serum with L-ascorbic acid (INCI: Ascorbic Acid)
This is the most popular form of vitamin C used in cosmetics. It is classified as PHA, which can irritate sensitive skin, even though it is considered delicate. Typically, a serum containing this form of vitamin C has a watery consistency. At higher concentrations (above 20%), L-ascorbic acid has an exfoliating effect. For this type of serum to be effective, it must contain at least 15% and a maximum of 20% of vitamin C.
Serum with vitamin C in the form of an oil (INCI: Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate)
Vitamin C in this form is soluble in oils, which results in the oily consistency of the serum. Although it works slower and less intensely than L-ascorbic acid, with regular use it gives equally good results. For the serum to be effective, the concentration of vitamin C should be range 3-10%.
Serum with ethylated ascorbic acid (INCI: Ethyl Ascorbic Acid)
It is a stable form of vitamin C, and at the same time the latest discovery of scientists. It is soluble in water, therefore this type of serum has a watery consistency. For the best effect, look for a cosmetic with a content of vitamin C exceeding 10%.
How to use a serum with vitamin C?
Serum with vitamin C can be used once a day – either in the morning or in the evening. The cosmetic should be applied to the skin after cleansing it thoroughly with a micellar liquid or washing gel and using a toner. After absorbing the serum, you should apply some moisturizing cream with sunscreen. Then you can go ahead and start doing your makeup.
When it comes to the application of serum with vitamin C before bedtime, make sure to use it after toning and before applying the cream.
